The Doctor sits alone in his TARDIS. It’s not the first time and it’s certainly not the last. But in this moment he is alone. He tries his best not to let his thoughts wander, but his Time Lord brain won’t let him rest. And he can’t help, but think of her. The one that got away. The one that came back for him. The one that couldn’t stay.
Defender of the Earth.
He remembers her smile. And her laugh. The way it felt to run his fingers through her hair. The way she looked at him. But she is gone. Trapped. And his hearts begin to ache. He wishes he could be there. To hold her every night. But he is not the same man she knew. She wouldn’t even recognize him now. And the ache grows stronger. If only he had one last chance to kiss her. To hold her hand. One last chance to show her how he feels. But he knows it’s selfish. He knows deep down she is safe. And loved. And all he can hope for is her happiness. And he will travel on. The Doctor. As he always does. And he’ll meet new people. See new planets. Save the universe. But he’ll always think of her. No matter how hard he tries not to.
She’ll always have a place in his heart[s].
